Many couples come to therapy hoping the other person will change. Power Partner starts with the one person you can change: you. In 16 short chapters, Brannon Patrick, LCSW, looks at the assumptions, blame and fear that quietly give your power away, and at what it takes to step back into it. Along the way, you’ll find practical challenges to try in your own relationship. No partner participation required.

After years of sitting with couples in therapy, Brannon noticed he kept saying the same things: You can’t control them, so what’s in your control? Focus on you, not them. Many clients met that with anger or a blank stare. They wanted their pain to go away and believed that could only happen if their partner changed. So he wrote Power Partner: a guide to what is in your control, and what isn’t.

An introduction and 16 chapters in three parts:

  • Part One: assumptions and “shoulds,” owning your part, loving yourself first, keeping your power.
  • Part Two: the “be one” myth, self-worth, curiosity, courage, self-sabotage, holding space for pain.
  • Part Three: boundaries, honesty, trust, purpose, forgiveness, and power versus force.

For anyone who feels stuck in their relationship and is tired of waiting for their partner to change. Maybe you’ve read the self-help books, taken the courses and tried new things together, and nothing seems to shift. You don’t need your partner to read it with you. This book is not a replacement for therapy. If you want support along the way, you can work with Brannon Patrick, LCSW.

A PDF ebook, 86 pages: an introduction and 16 chapters in three parts, with practical challenges throughout. Right after checkout, you land on your download page. We also email you the link, so you can download it again anytime. Read it on your phone, tablet or computer, or print it out.

What listeners and readers say

I just listened to the episode on objectifying that woman-and Oh. My. Goodness. Brannon gave me a total core-shaking smackdown when he talked about the betrayed objectifying others via comparison-that other women don't become daughters of God, but become the embodiments everything the betrayed feels she isn't- 😳 What a wake up call! I am so grateful for your podcasts! They have been more helpful than I can even express. Thank you for being brave!

No one ever talks about betrayal trauma like you do. I was doing this in my previous relationship and he walked out because he couldnt take it anymore he complete ignored me whilst he was the reason i was going thru this and he labeled me as being "crazy". Im so relieved to listen to your video and be able to tell myself that evsrything i was going thru was related to betrayal trauma i never knew there was such thing
